Treatment for First Degree Burn (First Aid)
Most first degree burns are very minor and can treated easily at home. Here are some basic steps you can carry out in order to help treat your burn.
- Make some sort of cool compress. For instance, you could take a towel and run it under cold tap water until it is completely soaked.
- Put the compress over the burn for about 5 to 15 minutes. The amount of time spent with the compress will depend on the severity the burn.
- Do not put ice on your burn. This will aggravate it and cause further damage due to the extreme differences in temperature the skin is experiences.
- Avoid coming in contact with oils such as butter. These substances will prohibit healing of the burn.
